Calligraphy: several years before I dared say I had a foothold
Practising writing is strange — it looks fine while you write it, and the next day every flaw is obvious. The feedback loop is far longer than with code, and far more interesting.

I have read for many years, moving from "every book must be useful" to "finishing it is enough". The shift took a while, and was worth it.
